Thought Of The Week 3

Mohamed PBUH سيدنا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم

None of you [truly] believes until he loves for his brother that which he loves for himself.

Prophet Mohamed صلى الله عليه وسلم PBUH
This is a Hadith from the Prophet Mohamed PBUH.

On the authority of Abu Hamzah Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) — the servant of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) — that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

None of you [truly] believes until he loves for his brother that which he loves for himself. [Al-Bukhari] [Muslim]
This says that to be a believer, one has to love for his fellow human being what he loves and wants for himself. If one truely feels this love towards his brother without wanting a reward back, then he is a faithful believer in Islam.
What do you think? Can anyone be a believer without loving his brother human? Does selfishness have a place in a Muslim’s heart?
Pushing things a bit further, how can a person make himself love for his brother human being what he loves for himself? What does it take to purify our hearts and make ourselves love someone else, anyone, as much as we love ourselves?
I’d like to hear your thoughts and comments on this. Write them down below and I’ll follow up.
